Board of Directors

Robby Berman, Founder & Director

Robert Berman has an MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, an MBA from Baruch College, and a BA from Yeshiva University in economics. He is also a graduate of Gruss Kollel and Yeshivat Hakotel. Mr. Berman has been a social activist for many Jewish causes, and was a freelance journalist published in New York Magazine, the Jerusalem Post, Jewish Week, Moment Magazine and the Jerusalem Report. He is the founder and director of the Halachic Organ Donor Society.

Shepard Schwartz, M.D., President

Dr. Shimshon Schwartz obtained his B.A. from Yeshiva College in 1982 and his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1986. He is currently attending chief for the pediatric emergency room in Sharei Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem. Dr. Schwartz also has a private pediatric practice in Jerusalem, and during the summer he is a physician at Camp HASC in upstate New York.

Michael Feldstein

Michael Feldstein received his M.B.A. from New York University, and is the marketing director at Boardroom Inc., a direct marketer of books and newsletters. Mr. Feldstein has extensive experience in helping Jewish organizations with their marketing, advertising, and public relations, and was on the Board of Directors of Edah. He has volunteered for both the Orthodox Union and YUConnects in planning singles programming for them. He lives in Stamford, CT, and served as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee of the local Jewish newspaper, the Jewish Voice. He is an active member of the community's Chevra Kadisha, has served on several different committees at both the Young Israel of Stamford and Congregation Agudath Sholom, and was the president of the Stamford Eruv Committee.  He currently chairs the Committee to Advance Modern Orthodoxy in Stamford (CAMOS), a community growth initiative that has successfully attracted many young Modern Orthodox couples to relocate to Stamford.

Harold Perl, M.D.

Dr. Harold Perl received his B.A. from Yeshiva College in 1972 and his M.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1975. He is presently the Director of Neonatology at Hackensack University Medical Center. He is a founding member of the Bioethics Committee at H.U.M.C. In addition he serves as the Medical Director of the SIDS Center of New Jersey. He maintains an academic appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Dina Najman, Bioethicist

Dina Najman received her B.A. from Yeshiva University in 1990. She was a fellow at Drisha Institute in New York and Nishmat Institute in Jerusalem. She is a certified Bioethicist through the N.Y.U./Einstein Bioethics and Medical Humanities program (1998). Dina lectures on Bioethics and halacha in many communities and has taught in Nishmat, Drisha and Ma'ayanot High School.

Mark (Moshe) Wertenteil, M.D.

Dr. Mark Wertenteil received his B.S. in economics from Yeshiva University in 1990 and his M.D. from New York University School of Medicine in 1994. He completed his Residency of Internal Medicine at the Case Western University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1997.  He has a medical practice in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and is an attending physician at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Yossi Goldberger, M.D.

Dr. Jeffrey Goldberger obtained his B.S. from M.I.T. in 1980 and his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1984. He is currently the Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and Professor of Medicine at Northwestern University.

Noam Stadlan, M.D.

Dr. Noam Stadlan received his B.S from the University of Maryland in 1984 and his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1988.  He is currently a Neurosurgeon and Director of Spine Surgery at the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery & Neuroresearch, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at Rush Medical College in Chicago.

Paul Ratzker, M.D.

Dr. Ratzker received his B.A. from Yeshiva College in 1984.  He received his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1988.  He completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Miami in 1996 and is currently practicing neurosurgery in New Jersey.

 

Sharon Shenhav, JD

Sharon Shenhav, an international women's rights lawyer, has been recognized as an expert on marriage and divorce in Jewish law. In 1997 she established and became director of the International Jewish Women's Rights Project, a joint project of the International Council of Jewish Women and the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs that is concerned with fairness for women in the religious divorce process. She has served as a consultant to lawyers, judges, rabbis, and legislators worldwide, and was a member of the Israeli delegation to the United Nations Commission on Status of Women.

Michael B. Harris

Dr. Michael Harris is one of the nation’s leading pediatric oncologists.  He is currently Director of Tomorrows Children’s Institute, a pediatric cancer and blood disorders program that combines world-class medicine, cutting-edge research, and compassionate care for children and adolescents.  He is Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Senior Attending, Department of Pediatrics at The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at the Hackensack University Medical Center and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School.  He serves on numerous committees and boards, including the Medical Advisory Board of the Israel Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Rabbi Henry Hasson, M.D.

Rabbi Dr. Henry Hasson is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, and practices Pediatric Neurology at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.   He gives classes and lectures at Ohel David and Shlomo and for Merkaz Moreshet Yisrael.   He was ordained with Semicha  in 2002 from Yeshivas Pirchei Shoshanim. 

Chaim Trachtman, M.D.

Dr. Trachtman attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He currently practices Pediatric Nephrology and Pediatrics at the NYU Langone Medical Center.  In 2010, Newsday newspaper listed him among the Top Doctors on Long Island and he has been listed as one of the Best Doctors by New York Magazine for the last 10 years.

Judy Heicklen

Judy Heicklen is a Managing Director at Credit Suisse. She is the President of the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance (JOFA) and Treasurer of Drisha Institute for Jewish Education. She holds a BA in Economics from Princeton University, an MBA from New York University, and is a Certified Public Accountant in New York State.

Kenneth Prager, M.D.


Kenneth Prager received his B.A. degree from Columbia College and his MD degree from Harvard Medical School. He is a pulmonologist and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Prager is Chairman of the Medical Ethics Committee and Director of Clinical Ethics at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Campus.

Michael Strauss is the owner of Silver Smiths located at 164 East 68th Street, New York, NY inside Park East Synagogue.

Mr. Jack Doueck

Mr. Jack Doueck graduated Yeshiva University  in 1985 and attended Bernard Revel Graduate School for an advanced degree in Jewish Philosophy.  Professionally, Mr. Doueck is a principal and founder of Advanced Energy Capital, LLC – an energy finance company - and previously he was principal and founder of Stillwater Capital Partners, Inc. an Investment Advisory firm.  Jack is one of the founders of “Sephardic Career Services”, a non-profit organization which places hundreds of people each year in jobs.  He is a featured speaker at investment conferences around the world and lectures regularly in Bernard Baruch College. He is the author of : “The Chesed Boomerang: How Acts of Kindness Enrich Our Lives”, “Joseph: How One Man Can Make a Difference”, and “Yom Teru’ah: The Shofar and Its Meaning on Rosh Hashanah.”  All proceeds from his books go to charity.  He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of several charitable organizations including Sephardic Bikur Holim and American Friends of Hamakom Sheli for disabled children.  Jack lives in New York with his wife Jamie and their five children.
