Asaf
Needs a Kidney
|
Dear family and friends,
We are writing to you in the hope that someone can help our 17 year-old son Asaf. Asaf was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure; both his kidneys are damaged and scarred from some infection or defects that happened years ago. They will likely cease to function sometime within the next six months.
The best solution for Asaf is a kidney transplant. Because of incompatible blood types, kidney disease (including one aunt who also has one kidney), and age, all of Asaf's siblings, parents, aunts and uncles, and all his first cousins have been eliminated as potential donors.
Asaf has a blood type of B negative. That means that possible donors are people with B negative or O negative blood. Right now, Asaf has no symptoms other than very poor blood tests and some slight fatigue. He has recently changed his diet in an attempt to delay dialysis for as long as possible. There is no cure for Asaf's existing kidneys. He will need a kidney transplant sometime in the next few years.
Thank you for listening and being part of our extended family,
Elliot, Leiah and Asaf Jaffe
If you would like to donate a Kidney to Asaf (matching Blood Type: B neg), please contact the HOD Society at admin@hod.org or by calling 212-213-5087.

Matthew
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Matthew and I am 21 years old. I have advanced kidney disease and I am desperately searching for a live kidney donor (blood type O Positive). I am a college student at Northeastern University in Boston, majoring in finance. I work to help supplement my tuition costs in addition to attending school full time. I grew up in New Jersey and spent most of my summers at camp in New Hampshire. Everything in my life seemed to be going in the right direction until February 2007. Suddenly, I felt very sick. Both my kidneys had become damaged, which the doctors diagnosed as a disease called IGA Nephropathy (http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/iganephropathy/). My illness progressed very aggressively and instead of facing a transplant 5-10 years from now, I need a kidney transplant now. Only over a year after my diagnosis, there is nothing else the doctors can do to help me. Therefore, all my medications have been suspended. None of my family members are suitable donors. When someone is willing to donate, there are no medical expenses to the donor. My family is also willing to help with all costs associated with travel and miscellaneous expenses. Thanks so much.
If you would like to donate a Kidney to Matthew (matching Blood Type: O Pos), please contact the HOD Society at admin@hod.org or by calling 212-213-5087.

Robert
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Bob, Saba Bob to my nine grandchildren in New York and Israel. I am 74 years old and live on Long Island, N.Y. I have End State Renal Disease and have been on dialysis for about 6 months, since the “flesh eating” strep bacteria necessitated the amputation of my right leg, I walk with a prosthesis. I remain a positive and forward looking person, active in my community, where I take a weekly Hebrew ulpan class, teach Yiddish and Hebrew to beginners in my congregation, go to concerts, host Shabbat dinners at home, visit our grandchildren, from whom we derive much nachas. Our children are unable to donate. It could be years before a kidney is available for me. My blood type is O. There will be no medical costs for the donor.
To us - his wife, children and nine grandchildren - Saba Bob is a very smart, and wonderful person, helping us with Chumash or puzzles or swimming. We love him a lot and want him with us for a long time.

We are looking for a kidney for our husband/Dad/Saba Chaim, who lives in Toronto, Canada. He is a wonderful and inspiring father and grandfather. He is now in disparate need of a kidney, but is otherwise in good physical condition. He is currently on peritoneal dialysis. He is blood type B positive and hopes to find a suitable donor to regain the quality of life he once had. There would be no words to describe our gratitude.

My name is Avichai and I am a 30 year Israeli. I have been, unfortunately, on dialysis for 26 years. Although I could barely leave my house I managed to graduate high school and today I am a sports journalist for Maariv daily newspaper. I love soccer and Middle Eastern music and I would love to keep on living.
I have O Positive blood type but, unfortunately, I have 99% antibodies which means the chance of finding any kidney match for me is very very small. If you would be kind enough to be checked to see if you match for me I would appreciate it.

Zofit
Needs a Kidney

See Zofit on video- English
|
My name is Zofit and I'm 29 years old. Starting from the age of 11 until today I have suffered from kidney failure. After a long wait I had my first kidney transplant operation which unfortunately wasn't successful; the kidney didn't last more than a few days. It has been now almost 9 years since that first and only operation and almost 20 long years of daily dialysis treatments without any prospect of hope or change for present or future. Despite my chronic situation, I have managed with the help of the social security rehab program to learn a profession in book-keeping which is currently what I'm doing on a part-time basis due to my special needs. Shortly after my unsuccessful transplant operation, my father brought a friend to our house, a big hairy husky dog called Chetz (Arrow in Hebrew). This dog had a very therapeutic effect on me. It was definitely a love at first sight and though Chetz has died since then, I find great joy and satisfaction in caring for animals especially dogs and now have a small Chitzsu dog called Sandy. I know that the people around me are always amazed at the way I seem to gobble up life and they are all certain that were I only free of that dialysis machine no one could stop me ….. Currently I enjoy doing all kinds of crafts work, jigsaw puzzle, reading, walking my dog. I truly look forward to a future where I could start a family and move from the stage where I look after my own health to start caring and nurturing my own family cell. As my doctors have explained to me, due to my high level of antibodies the only way to ensure a successful transplant is to receive a kidney from a live donor.

Meir
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Meir and I am a 63-year-old dialysis patient for 5 years already. Prior to the dialysis, I was considered a strong, healthy man. I worked in a building. unfortunately, since dialysis, I am now extremely fragile and without strength. I am not allowed to drink water; only small sips. After dialysis, I return straight home, into bed.
I have 5 children; 2 are married and 3 are living at home. I have no desire to talk to them or even laugh with them. It pains me that I can no longer do anything around the house. I used to be the person who fixed everything around the house; today, no longer.
The entire household is under a great deal of stress right now because of me. My wife, who should live and be well, must now undertake both female and male roles around the house.
At times, I curse myself and want to die. What am I living for? To be a burden on everyone; to have everyone suffer because of me?
I am suffering a great deal. Please help me obtain a new kidney so I can live like everyone else and do mitzvot and chessed for Hakadosh Baruch Hu.
Tizku L’Mitzvot,
Meir
P.S. My blood type is A Positive .

Haya
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Haya. I am 51 years old, a mother of 3 girls and a grandmother of 4 grandchildren. I have been working in Bank Hapoalim for 30 years.
My kidneys function at 11% capacity and I need a kidney transplant. My blood is B positive. My husband has the same blood type as mine, but he can not be my donor because, I have 100% antibodies against his blood, and against most of the population. These antibodies are the reason that I need to check as many potential donors as possible, so my odds will be better at finding a match.

Cheryl
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Cheryl and my blood type is B. I desperately need a kidney.
In spite of being on dialysis three times a week, I spend my free time as a Friendly Caller working for the Jewish Family Service in the 3 hour period while on dialysis. As a Friendly Caller I call single lonely seniors in the community, who have been forgotten by their children, or who are housebound.
On my off days from dialysis, I am active in the Friendly Visitor program of the Jewish Family Service where I bring a refreshing persona to seniors in their 80’s, whose friends and families have passed on. Two Sundays a month, I visit Jewish Nursing Homes with my dog Sasha, who brings smiles to the otherwise dreary lives of the infirm elderly.
I am a published poet, love to play the piano, sing in the Holiday choir at my Congregation, and I attend Shabbat services having attended Hebrew School and being Bat Mitzvah.
If you were to be kind enough to save my life by donating to me your kidney, I would be forever grateful.

Melvin
Husband, Father, Grandfather
Needs a Kidney
Type B Positive (Can accept O donor)
Besides needing a kidney, my father is in great physical condition, strength and attitude to live a long and productive life.
Dad is a professor of electrical engineering and he received an award from his professional society, IEEE, for enabling and encouraging others to achieve their potential in their profession and for assisting immigrant engineers. In one of his many projects, he joined forces with B'nai Zion to help Russian Jewish engineers gain employment in the United States. Mel was instrumental in retraining and placing over 1,200 engineers in full-time employment in their field. As Maimonides stated, this is the highest form of tzedakah. His students look to him for guidance, not only in matters of engineering but also for their most personal problems. He has always looked upon the classroom as a place to prepare students for life as well as for work. To us, his wife, children and ten grandchildren, he is our most favorite person. He always has time for us, respects us, and loves us.

Hagit
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Hagit and I have been on dialysis since the age of 14. I had a transplantation from a cadaver. Unfortunately, it was rejected immediately, and I was back on dialysis. Then I knew the suffering of living with dialysis. I had been waiting for 11 years, and then a miracle happened. A perfectly matched kidney from a cadaver was found for me. I had better life for seven years but this kidney reached had its end, and slowly stopped working. Again I was back on dialysis and my life depending on it.
Every day my life is getting more difficult than the day before. I suffer from extremely low blood pressure due to dialysis, I can't recover from one treatment and I have to go to dialysis again... one day of suffering to another.
I have started my PhD. at the Weizmann Institute of Science, but every day I function less and less. I quit my studies, and for now stayed working there at the same lab. Today, it is almost impossible for me even go to work. I don’t have anywhere to reach-out for help.
My father z"l, passed away eight years ago. My mother, may she live long happy life, is recovering from cancer. I have one sister whoh was tested for donation and found to be a non-match. And meanwhile my condition is getting worse.
I love life, I love music, arts, going to the beach, reading books, dancing, traveling and everything life can offer. I love children and I always hoped to have a family of my own. In my condition I can barely take care of myself, and I don’t know when I will have the strength to do even few things I love to do.
My only hope for fulfilling my dreams or doing any of all the things I love to do, is if a miracle will happen and I will have a successful transplantation. If there is anyone who can help me I will be forever thankful.
My blood type is A Positive . Hagit

Ketty
Needs a Kidney
|
My name is Ketty and I am 30 years old. I need a kidney and I am O blood type.
In 1999, after my service in the Israeli army, I went traveling through South America. In Bolivia, inexplicably, my kidneys failed. I returned to Israel and my father donated his kidney to me. That allowed me to go to University where I received a BA in biology from Ben Gurion University and a Masters Degree in genetics from Hadassah Ein Kerem. Today I work in a biotech firm in Jerusalem.
In 2005 I got married to the love of my life Yair, but to our dismay we discovered that my immunosuppressant medication could hurt a fetus so I can’t get pregnant. My husband and I, with the approval of the ministry of health, found a surrogate mother. All I need now is a kidney so I can be a strong mother for my new future baby.
Please help.

Gary
Needs a Kidney

Please help. My dad is dying of kidney failure. He’s 58 years old and over the past 10 years he has been held up at gun point which caused him to lose his business and as a result, he has had to move his family. Shortly after losing his business, he had to have vascular surgery, quadruple bypass surgery and carotid artery surgery. He has been on disability for the last 3+ years and thus, has been unable to provide for his family. He will have to go on dialysis very soon and his doctors said that he will not survive that long on it, given his prior medical conditions.
My strong, amazing mother donated her kidney to my father a little over 2 years ago. The kidney has now failed. My brother was ready to donate his kidney to my father. 4 days before the surgery the doctors found a tumor on his kidney. The doctors will not allow me to donate my kidney because of low clearance. My dad needs all the help he can get. He is a thoughtful, amazing person that would do anything for anyone. My mother, brother and I want our dad to be around as long as he can. My dad’s insurance covers all of the medical expenses. We have no one else that can save my dad please help. We would all be forever grateful.
I hope for the opportunity to discuss this further and at the very least be able to hear your voice and thank someone who would be so brave that is willing to do this mitzvah to help someone. My dad needs all the help he can get. Thank you for taking the time to read my dad’s profile

ELIEL GOT A KIDNEY!
I was born and raised in New York City. At age 15 I went with my family to Israel for the first time ,and studied in Maale High School in 1968-1969 where I met a girl in my class who would later become my wife. Her father was the late Rabbi Moalem, the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Moaz Zion. In 1970-1971 I spent the year in a teachers college in Jerusalem and during the 1973 Yom Kipper war I returned to Israel to help out and was reunited with this girl again. After the war she joined me in returning back to the United States and we were married in my late father’s synagogue who was the Rabbi. I learned and worked in the diamond and precious stone industry on 47th Street in Manhattan and my wife studied to be a dietitian at Queens College. We made Aliya to Israel in August of 1982 with 2 small children and pregnant with our third, and settled in the new development of Maale Adumim which is now a city.
I have served in the Israeli Army for 21 years, my wife has been working at Hadassa Hospital and still there today. Our three children are married and have children of their own, all living in Israel. There are very few organ donations in Israel and I have no chance of finding a donor in this country. I turn to you in desperation to save my life and continue to stay alive to be with my family, children and grandchildren
If you might hear of someone willing to donate a kidney to save my life, or if there is any one willing to help me cover some of the huge expenses I would appreciate your taking an interest on my behalf.
The Kupot Holim cover only a small fraction of the total medical costs (75,000.00 which they require me to pay the hospital in advance and then collect it back from the Kupa assuming that they will reimburse - unfortunately, they have a habit of not paying at all). I would appreciate any and all help that you could on my behalf.
Blood type is A Negative.

Shlomo
Needs a Kidney
|
My dad was born in 1960 in Tel Aviv and was raised in Jaffa. He was the first son, with four brothers and sisters following. He served in the Israeli army for five years in the air force unit. He went into the women’s clothing business for the last 25 years. He got married in 1983 to Mercedes and they had two boys, my brother Hen and me, and one girl, Shani. Hen is 24 years old, I am 23 and Shani is 18. On my father’s side of the family, there is a history of kidney problems. My dad’s mother (my grandmother) had a successful kidney transplant five years ago. Now, however, in the last few months, my dad’s problem became worse. His creatinine is very high, around 4.5, and we’ve begun the search for a donor.
My dads blood type is O.
If there is anything else I can offer, let me know.
Thanks
Maor

Rachamim Type B Positive
My name is Rachamium. I am 46 years old and I live in Elad, Israel.
I was born in Petah Tikvah in 1962. I went through the usual track of education from elementary school through high school. After that, at age 18, I served in the Israeli Army as a soldier in the Elite Command Unit. I participated in the Lebanon War in 1982, when I was 20 years old.
After my service in the army, I learned in the Open University of Israel and graduated with a B.A. cum laude. For some time I worked as a teacher in mathematics.
At a later stage in my life, I became ill on account of both of my kidneys. I have been on dialysis for about a year and a half now, and I cannot work.
